“When children lose a loved one, it can feel like their lives will never be the same again. Their grief may seem insurmountable,” explained Kenny Slaught. To fight this hardship, the Hospice’s I Have a Friend mentor program matches children and adolescents with a trained adult volunteer who has experienced a similar loss at a young age. This companion serves as a mentor throughout the grief process and provides a truly sympathetic point of view. The relationship that grows as a result of this program often becomes indispensable as the child continues to face hurdles for several years.
