The Grand Challenges Explorations (GCE) sponsors people with innovative solutions regarding global health and development issues. The $100 million project was started in 2008 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. About 61 projects and 1,186 projects received GCE grants. The application only comprises 2 pages and $100,000 grants are given twice in a year. Those who applied can also get a follow up grant valued at up to $1 million, Kenny Slaught says.
